Questions people ask

Pull up a Seat

We're still building this — so here is exactly where it has got to

Lüvable is new and it is small. Some of what follows is finished, some of it is honestly described as half-done, and we would rather you heard that from us than found it out on your own at nine o'clock on a Tuesday.

Everything below is true today. If something here turns out not to match what you find, that's a fault on our side and we want to know about it.

Joining

What do I need to sign up?
A mobile number. You put in your number, we text you a six-digit code, and once that comes back you choose a name, a display name, an email and a password. The password is so that coming back later costs you nothing — one text, once.

Why do you want my phone number?
Like all the major dating or social apps we sign folks up with their phone number. We do this to cut down on bots or fake accounts. An email address is free and endless — anyone can make a thousand. A phone number has to be bought, and that one fact does more to keep this place real than anything else we could ask you for.

Can I join without giving a phone number?
Not at the moment. It's the one thing we hold firm on, and it's the reason you can assume there's a person on the other side of a conversation here.

Is there an age limit?
Yes — 18 and over.

Do I need a photo?
No. There are avatars to choose from if you'd like one, and no photo is ever required. A café doesn't ask for a picture at the door.

Getting back in

I've forgotten my password.
There's a "Forgot your password?" link on the sign-in panel. It sends a reset to your email. ⚠️ Check your spam folder — our email deliverability is something we are actively working on and we would rather tell you that than have you sit waiting.

I signed in and nothing happened.
The most common cause is signing in with an email address that has no account attached — easily done if you have more than one. Try the sign-up panel with that address: if it says an account already exists, the address is right and the password is the problem. If it lets you start signing up, that address never had an account.

Do I stay signed in?
No, and that's deliberate. When you close the browser, the session ends. You sign in again next time. On a shared or borrowed device that matters more than the convenience does.

The rooms

What is actually in there?
Rooms where people talk. No algorithm, no matching, no swiping, nothing to download. You can see who else is present before you go in, so you're never walking into the unknown.

Which rooms are open?
Two right now — The Main Room and Matters of the Heart. The others are listed with a "Save me a seat" button: put your name down and we'll tell you when yours opens. We'd rather open one room that has people in it than ten that don't.

How many people are in a room?
Up to twelve. When one fills, a second table opens — Table 2, Table 3 — the way the old chat rooms did it. Twelve is about the size where a conversation is still a conversation.

When is it busiest?
Wednesdays and Sundays from 7–9:30pm EST. The rooms are open at every other hour too, and somebody has to be first in — that's often how the good conversations start.

Do I have to talk?
No. Sit and read for as long as you like. Nobody is counted, nudged, or asked why they're quiet.

When something goes wrong

Someone is making me uncomfortable.
Use "Give yourself some space". It removes that person from your view straight away. It is private and one-sided: they are not told, nothing is announced, and they carry on as normal. You owe nobody an explanation for it, and you can undo it whenever you like.

Is anyone actually watching what gets posted?
Yes, and before it lands rather than after. Hate speech, threats, harassment and requests for money are refused by the system at the point of posting — the message never reaches the room and never reaches you. Anything that reads like someone struggling is never refused; that's the one thing we always let through.

Can I swear?
Swear all you like. Just don't swear at people. "That was so bloody good" is welcome here. "You're a bloody idiot" is not. It was never the words — it's where they're pointed.

What gets someone removed?
Racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, ableism — any language that degrades a person for who they are. Harassment. Asking anyone for money. Sexual or graphic content. We don't negotiate on those.

I'm having a hard time right now.
Please reach your local emergency number, and don't wait on us — in Canada and the United States you can call or text 988 at any hour. Emergency numbers differ by country, so if you're elsewhere in the Americas please use your own. We are people in a chat room, not a crisis service, and we would rather say so plainly than have you rely on us for something we cannot do.

What we hold about you

Do you sell my data?
No. Not now, not later. There is no version of this where your information is a product.

What do you keep?
Your account details, and some device and IP information so we can spot someone who has been removed trying to come back under a new name. That's the whole reason it exists.

Who can see me?
Anyone signed in and in the same room. There are no hidden profiles and no shadow banning — if you can see a room, the people in it can see you.

What it costs

What am I paying?
Nothing today. There's no card on file, no trial running down, and no payment system switched on. If that ever changes you'll be told plainly, before it happens, not discovered at a checkout.

Language

Can I use Lüvable in my language?
The site is being translated into eight: English, Español, 中文, हिन्दी, العربية, বাংলা, Tagalog and Français. Pick yours from the dropdown at the top of the page. ⚠️ Be aware that the translations have not yet been checked by native speakers, so some of it will read awkwardly. If something is wrong or sounds cold, please tell us — that's genuinely useful.

Still stuck?

In this order, and you can skip straight to any of them:

We don't take phone calls. The number on our corporate listings is an office line, not a support line, and nobody there can help with your account.

And one room that's open right now

Come and sit down. Say something or say nothing — both are fine.
